Fury model 33026, locking marlin spike

fury 3

The knife is a knock off of the more expensive Myerchin P300 Sailor's Tool. Fury doesn't have a real name for it just a description and model number. I'm not sure if there are trademark or patent issues between Myerchin and Fury as this is almost a direct copy of John Myerchin's original design..

Apparently it has a 440C stainless blade but I’m not sure of the quality of the heat treatment.  The marlin spike and blade lock in the open place with liner locks. The pliers are light-weight but should be good enough for breaking open shackles. The pliers are no better or worse than those found on any other multi-tool but are more useful than a shackle key blade.

The sheepshead blade is short and serrated and, while very sharp from the factory, will be difficult to sharpen unless you know how to sharpen serrated blades. The thumb studs make it possible for one hand opening and if you've practiced a little with liner-locks you'll probably be able to lock it in place with the flick of a wrist. The blade is very short but still functional. It'll cut a 1/2 inch line with one or two swipes thanks to the serrated design.

The marlin spike is a little wobbly in the closed position, a problem I've noticed on numerous riggers. It tightens up when in the full open and locked position. It easily opens with the flick of the wrist. The spike has a good curve to it which, if you're like me will be appreciated. It is almost as if it were locked in the half open position. If you like a nice straight spike, you'll find this one annoying.

The quality and workmanship are pretty good. I'm very satisfied with the fit and finish of the knife and it is up to the tasks it was designed to perform. All in all a good economy knife that will get the job done while at the same time, if it falls over-board, you won't cry over the money you spent.
